If you’ve browsed Instagram or Pinterest lately for nursery or kids' bedroom inspiration, you’ve undoubtedly seen it: the scallop trend. Wavy borders, whimsical scalloped edges, and playful lines are taking modern Australian interior design by storm—especially in nurseries, playrooms, and cozy living spaces.
The scalloped aesthetic adds instant warmth, charm, and a touch of nostalgic storytelling to a room. But you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on custom wavy designer furniture to get the look.
With our bestselling Solid Pine Wood Scallop Trim or Scallop Pattern Edging (plywood/mdf) you can easily upgrade your existing furniture or walls into beautiful, custom-made statement pieces.
Here is a guide on how to style this gorgeous timber trim, along with answers to all your frequently asked questions to help you conquer your next weekend DIY project!
Creative Ways to Use Timber Scallop Trim
Our scallop trim is handcrafted from 1.9cm thick solid pine wood or the 3mm plywood/mdf and delivered with a raw, smooth finish, making it the ultimate blank canvas for your creativity. Here are some of our favourite ways to use it around the home:
1. Level-Up a Standard Bookshelf
Give a plain IKEA bookshelf or an old set of drawers an instant high-end glow-up. By measuring and attaching the solid pine scallop trim across the front of the shelves or along the top crown moulding, you transform a generic piece of furniture into a beautiful, playful feature perfect for a kids' bedroom.
2. Create a Wavy Nursery Wall Border
Instead of traditional dad-rail mouldings or simple paint splits, use the scallop trim to create a continuous wavy border around your baby's room. Positioned at waist height or just below the ceiling, it adds a gorgeous architectural layer that makes a nursery feel incredibly custom and cosy.
3. Upgrade Floating Wall Shelves
Have some plain floating shelves that need a little more personality? Simply affix a piece of scallop trim to the front face of the shelf. It instantly creates a stunning, decorative edge that frames your books, crystals, or trailing indoor plants perfectly.
🛠️ Solid Pine Wood Scallop Trim: Your FAQs Answered
To help you plan your DIY project with absolute confidence, we’ve rounded up the questions we get asked most about our scallop trim.
How do I attach the scallop trim to my furniture or walls?
solid pine wood: 19mm-thick solid pine wood, it requires proper securing. For attaching to wooden furniture (like a bookshelf or shelf face), we highly recommend using high-quality wood glue paired with clamps, or securing it from behind with nails or screws. If you are mounting it straight to a plasterboard wall to make a border, ensure you are securing it firmly into wall studs or using heavy-duty construction adhesive.
3mm plywood or mdf: Because our 3mm plywood and MDF trims are so beautifully thin and lightweight, you don’t need screws or nails. Simply attach them using a premium wood glue, construction adhesive, or a strong double-sided mounting tape (like 3M tape) for a quick, secure finish
Can I paint or stain it?
Yes, absolutely! The trim arrives with a premium raw wooden finish that has already been sanded completely smooth. It is 100% ready to paint, stain, or clear-coat. If you want a minimalist, Scandinavian, or Coastal look, you can leave it raw or coat it in a clear matte sealer to show off the beautiful natural pine grain. If you want it to pop in a nursery, a coat of soft pastel or earthy terracotta paint works beautifully.
How do multiple pieces fit together?
We have specifically designed our scallop trim so that the ends butt up together completely seamlessly. This means you can order multiple lengths and line them up end-to-end along a long wall or bookshelf for a perfectly continuous, uninterrupted wavy pattern.
Can I use this in my bathroom or outdoor undercover patio?
No. Our solid pine wood scallop trim is not moisture-resistant and is strictly for dry, indoor use only. Avoid using it in high-humidity zones like bathrooms or outdoor spaces where exposed timber can warp over time due to dampness.
What lengths are available, and can I get a custom size?
Our standard lengths range from 30cm up to 70cm (including popular increments like 50cm and 60cm).
- Note on proportions: Any length that is a multiple of 10 (30, 40, 50, etc.) shares the exact same scallop wave height and width. In-between sizes (like 55cm) are proportionately resized so the pattern fits perfectly across that exact length.
- Need a custom fit? If you have an exact measurement for a specific piece of furniture, just shoot us a message! We handcraft these to order and are always happy to accommodate custom lengths.
Where are these made and what is the turnaround time?
Every single piece of our scallop trim is proudly handcrafted right here in Australia (Penrith, NSW). Because they are made to order with love and care, our standard processing time is 2 to 4 weeks for dispatch. If you live locally in the Greater Western Sydney area, free local pickup from Penrith is also available once your order is ready!
