Making and hanging of Christmas lanterns (or parol for Filipinos) outside their homes is a representation of the star of Bethlehem that guided the 3 Wise Men to the manger of baby Jesus. These Christmas lanterns were initially used by Filipinos to light the way to the church to attend the 9-day Simbang Gabi.
Parols are normally big and colourful and are hung outside of the home. We made a mini version of it to hang as Christmas ornaments in the Christmas tree!
